The weekly market on Tuesdays adds to the atmosphere and is a popular reason for many Germans in the southeast of the island to visit the town.<\/p>\n
Friendly local vendors offer fresh fruits and vegetables, Mallorcan specialties, flowers, as well as clothing and shoes. There are also stalls selling handicrafts and small souvenirs. The market is compact, but its location right by the harbor makes it especially charming. Between shopping stops, there\u2019s plenty of time to take in the typical colorful fishermen\u2019s houses and the boats at anchor.<\/p>\n
The market takes place every Tuesday from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the area around Carrer Crist\u00f2fol Colom near the harbor. During the summer months, some of the stalls move to Pla\u00e7a des Corso by the water. By the way, there\u2019s also a smaller market in Portocolom on Saturdays. Around the natural harbor, numerous caf\u00e9s and restaurants invite you to round off your shopping with a view of the water.<\/p>\n
Portocolom is located on the east coast, about an hour\u2019s drive from Palma and just a few minutes from Felanitx. On market mornings, the streets around the harbor are bustling. It\u2019s best to park a little way from the center and walk along the waterfront to the market\u2014it\u2019s the most scenic route anyway.<\/p>\n
Pay in cash if possible, as not all vendors accept cards. Arrive early\u2014the selection is greatest then, and you\u2019ll find a parking spot more easily. Afterward, take a stroll around the harbor to the lighthouse with a view of the coast, or stop at one of the nearby coves, such as Cala Mar\u00e7al.<\/p>\n
