Every Sunday morning, its center fills with market stalls, and the town shows its liveliest side\u2014an authentic market geared less toward tourists than toward the local people. Surrounded by almond groves and vineyards, Felanitx is one of the most traditional rural towns in the island\u2019s southeast.<\/p>\n
Felanitx is known for its traditional crafts and agriculture. At the market, you\u2019ll find fresh fruits and vegetables, along with the region\u2019s famous capers, wine from the surrounding vineyards, cheese, olives, and honey. A special feature is the handmade ceramics and pottery for which Felanitx has been famous for centuries. The selection is rounded out by flowers, plants, textiles, leather goods, and household items.<\/p>\n
The weekly market in Felanitx takes place every Sunday from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. around Pla\u00e7a de Sant Salvador and the adjacent streets in the town center. Stalls are lined up closely together around the parish church and the central squares.<\/p>\n
Felanitx is located about 50 kilometers east of Palma and is easily accessible via the Ma-15 (about a 45-minute drive). There are parking options on the streets and in smaller squares in the town center; however, parking spots near the market fill up quickly on Sunday mornings. If you park a little outside the town center, you can easily reach it on foot.<\/p>\n
Be sure to look out for local pottery\u2014a hand-crafted jug or plate makes for an authentic souvenir. If you\u2019d like, combine your market visit with a drive up to the Sant Salvador Monastery: from the hilltop, you\u2019ll enjoy a sweeping view of eastern Mallorca. Be sure to try a wine from the region\u2014Felanitx is traditionally known for its wines. A stroll through the surrounding caf\u00e9s and bakeries is also well worth it, as the town is famous for its homemade baked goods.<\/p>\n
